mTagBFP2 is a monomeric blue fluorescent protein with an excitation peak of 399nm and an emission peak of 454nm. It is an artificial derivative of the naturally occurring fluorescent protein encoded by the Entacmaea quadricolor eqFP578 gene, obtained by mutagenesis of TagBFP (I174A substitution). Compared to TagBFP, it exhibits greater chemical stability and higher brightness in live cells, and is more photostable (PMID:22174863).
