Maternally deposited Actβ transcript is not observed in early embryos. Embryonic expression of Actβ transcript begins at stage 13, in the embryonic CNS. In late embryos, strong expression is observed in the brain and ventral ganglion; weak expression is observed in the PNS. In third instar larvae, Actβ transcript is expressed in are found in various neurons of the brain, and in the optic proliferation centers. Actβ expression is largely absent in the imaginal discs, except in the eye disc posterior the morphogenetic furrow, where transcript is expressed in differentiated photoreceptor cells. Actβ is expressed in primary spermatocytes of the both larval and adult testes. However, it is largely absent during oogenesis, except for a transient expression in posterior follicle cells surrounding the oocyte at oogenesis stage S10.
