AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.
Annotated transcripts do not represent all supported alternative splices within 5' UTR.

Activated babo protein phosphorylates the C-terminal SSXS motif of Smox protein. Med and Smox proteins form some complexes in the absence of activated babo protein, but the level of complex formation increases significantly in the presence of the activated babo protein. Smox protein also interacts transiently with putFBtr0091350:pb-XRbabo protein complexes.
Associates with a receptor serine/threonine kinase complex composed of put and babo; dissociates upon being phosphorylated by babo (PubMed:10320478, PubMed:9887103). Interacts (when phosphorylated on the SSXS motif) with Med/medea; the interaction is dependent on a receptor serine/threonine kinase complex (PubMed:10320478, PubMed:16951053, PubMed:9887103). Heterodimerizes with the Co-SMAD Med/medea upon activation of the activin pathway and translocates to the nucleus, where it transcriptionally activates activin-responsive genes (PubMed:10320478).
Phosphorylated in response to Actbeta/activin and daw signaling (PubMed:12581521, PubMed:18820452, PubMed:19766717). Phosphorylated on a C-terminal SSXS motif by the receptor serine/threonine kinase complex composed of the type I receptor babo and type II receptor put/punt (PubMed:10320478, PubMed:18820452, PubMed:19766717, PubMed:22563507, PubMed:9887103). Phosphorylation by babo induces heterodimerization with med/medea and nuclear localization (PubMed:10320478). Phosphorylation by babo increases protein turnover (PubMed:22563507).

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note FlyBase no longer curates genomic clone accessions so this list may not be complete
Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Smox is required during the late larval stage for development of adult-specific neurons.
Overexpression of Med, Smox, Hsap\MADH2 or Hsap\MADH4 causes a similar phenotype in the wing.
