The "GeneSwitch" Scer\GAL4 protein produced by Scer\GAL4Mhc.Switch.PO allows conditional expression of UAS transgenes, dependant on the presence of the activator RU486 (RU486 is thought to activate the protein produced by Scer\GAL4Mhc.Switch.PO from a transcriptionally inactive to a transcriptionally active form). Expression of UAS transgenes by the Scer\GAL4Mhc.Switch.PO protein is dose-dependent on RU486 concentration, with low background in the absence of RU486.
The Scer\GAL4Mhc.Switch.PO driver is leaky during the larval and pupal stages (driving expression of a UAS transgene in the absence of RU486).
