The Cth transcript is present at a high and constant level through most embryonic and larval stages. It is present at a low level through pupation and is higher again in adults. Cth transcripts are present in all tissues and are abundant in fat body, salivary glands, and lymph glands in third instar larvae. Transcript levels in the lymph glands increase just prior to metamorphosis.

The structural gene for a 40 kilodalton polypeptide (EIP40) whose concentration in Kc cells increases detectably beginning 30-60 min following administration of ecdysteroid hormone and reaching a maximum after 4-6 hr (Savakis et al. 1980).
