Gene Group / Complex (FlyBase)
Protein Family (UniProt)
Belongs to the prefoldin subunit beta family. (Q9VTE5)
Summaries
Gene Group / Complex (FlyBase)
PREFOLDIN COMPLEX -
The prefoldin complex is a heterohexameric co-chaperone involved in the folding of proteins such as tubulin and actin. It binds the cytosolic chaperonin containing TCP-1 (CCT) complex and and transfers target proteins to it. (Adapted from FBrf0231608 and PMID:29427249).
PREFOLDIN HOLDASES -
Prefoldins are holdases that bind unfolded polypeptides and maintain them in a folding-competent state. The canonical eukaryotic prefoldins form a heterohexameric complex that binds actin and tubulin co-translationally and delivers them to the chaperonin containing TCP-1 (CCT) complex. (Adapted from FBrf0231608 and PMID:29427249.)
Protein Function (UniProtKB)
Binds specifically to cytosolic chaperonin (c-CPN) and transfers target proteins to it. Binds to nascent polypeptide chain and promotes folding in an environment in which there are many competing pathways for nonnative proteins (By similarity).
(UniProt, Q9VTE5)
Summary (Interactive Fly)

a subunit of abmolecular chaperone complex - regulates tubulin function in mitosis - regulates neuroblast polarity in larval brains

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry Q9VTE5)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Testis-specificity index

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

S2 cells treated with dsRNA generated against this gene show reduced phagocytosis of Candida albicans compared to untreated cells.

The autosomal "FLP-DFS" technique (using the P{ovoD1-18} P{FRT(whs)} P{hsFLP} chromosomes) has been used to identify the specific maternal effect phenotype for the zygotic lethal mutation. l(3)01239 is required for germ cell viability or early oogenesis.
