DHHC family protein, responsible for the palmitoylation of selected cytoplasmic proteins - acts by controlling the normal subcellular localization and activity of Dachs in the Fat signaling pathway

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Alternative translation stop created by use of multiphasic reading frames within coding region.
Interacts with Dlish (via N-terminus including SH3 domain 1); this leads to palmitoylation of Dlish by app. Interacts with ft; this is likely to interfere with the interaction between app and Dlish, reducing the ability of app to palmitoylate Dlish and tether it to the apical cell cortex.
The DHHC domain is required for palmitoyltransferase activity.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

New annotation (CR32097) in release 3 of the genome annotation.
Candidate gene for tibia length quantitative trait locus.
Mutation analysis suggests app is involved in pattern formation of the wings, legs and thorax.
Mutant alleles have abnormal legs, with reduction of tarsal segments (at least). The wings are reduced in size with the crossveins closer together than in the wild-type. Body size is normally reduced. These phenotypes appear to be due to abnormal apoptosis.
