Gene Group (FlyBase)
COAT PROTEIN COMPLEX II -
The Coat Protein Complex II (COPII) mediates protein transport from the ER to Golgi (anterograde transport). COPII recruitment is initiated by the activation of the small GTPase Sar1. Sar1 recruits a heterodimeric complex comprising of Sec23/24, which interacts with cargo and the outer cage - a heterotetramer composed of Sec13/31. (Adapted from PMID:18060556).
ADP-RIBOSYLATION FACTOR GTPASE ACTIVATING PROTEINS -
ArfGAPs are GTPase activating proteins for ARF family GTPases. ARFGAPs contain a characteristic 130 amino acid module, the ArfGAP domain, originally defined as the minimal fragment possessing ArfGAP activity. (Adapted from FBrf0158741, PMID:15731001 and PMID:18809720).
Phenotypic Description (Red Book; Lindsley and Zimm 1992)
hau: haunted
Homozygous lethal; only head skeleton visible in homozygous embryo; no differentiation of cuticle.

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

      Other Comments

S2 cells treated with dsRNA directed against sec23 show a marked abnormality in actin polymerization and a total absence of bacterial binding in a phagocytosis assay.

Mutants have reduced dendritic arbors but normal axonal growth in the class IV dendritic arborization (da) neurons.

hau mutants display only a visible head skeleton, no differentiation of cuticle.

      Nomenclature comments

FlyBase Curator comment: Although the "hau" symbol has precedence over the "sec23" symbol, "sec23" has been retained as the approved FlyBase symbol for this gene because of its currency in the literature.

      Etymology

Named "Sec23" after the S. cerevisiae ortholog.
