mTurquoise is a monomeric cyan fluorescent protein with an excitation peak of 434nm and an emission peak of 474nm. It is an artificial derivative of the naturally occurring fluorescent protein encoded by the Aequorea victoria GFP gene (UniProtKB:P42212), derived by mutagenesis of SCFP3A, and is characterized by a long fluorescence lifetime (3.7ns) and a high quantum yield (0.84) (PMID:20081836). It contains the mutation T65S relative to SCFP3A (PMID:20081836), which itself contains the mutations F64L, S65T, Y66W, S72A, N146I, H148D, M153T, V163A, S175G and A206K relative to the wild-type GFP sequence (PMID:14990965).
