Gene Summary
Pericentrin-like protein (Plp) encodes a protein localized to centrioles and centrosomes that plays an important role together with the product of cnn in organizing the pericentriolar material of the centrosome during interphase. It is also required for proper cilium function. [Date last reviewed: 2019-03-14] (FlyBase Gene Snapshot)

Summary (Interactive Fly)

PACT domain protein - associated with both the centrioles and pericentriolar material - essential for the formation of functional cilia and flagella - plays an important role together with cnn in organizing the pericentriolar material of the centrosome during interphase.

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry Q400N2)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

        Other Comments

Loss of cp309 causes precocious activation of the mother chromosome and regulates interphase centrosomes by preventing the localisation of γTub23C.

cp309 blocks centrosome maturation by preventing polo localisation.

cp309 is required for efficient recruitment of pericentriolar material.

The autosomal "FLP-DFS" technique (using the P{ovoD1-18} P{FRT(whs)} P{hsFLP} chromosomes) has been used to identify the specific maternal effect phenotype for the zygotic lethal mutation.

        Nomenclature comments

Renamed from 'cp309' to 'Plp'/'Pericentrin-like protein' in order to (i) reflect preferred usage in the literature, (ii) use an more informative nomenclature, and (iii) reduce confusion with other gene groups that use a 'cp/Cp' prefix.
