CASK function is required in the α'/β' subset of the mushroom body neurons in the adult for middle-term, anesthesia-resistant and long-term memory formation.
dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene tested in RNAi screen for effects on Kc167 and S2R+ cell morphology.
RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene causes a phenotype when assayed in S2R+ cells: cells become round and detached. Kc167 cells are unaffected.
The Caki protein sequence is conserved in the catalytic and calmodulin-binding domains with other type II CaM kinases. In cultured cells Caki has the ability to stimulate the transcriptional activity of the Rous sarcoma virus long terminal repeat (RSV LTR).
Mutant flies, in which an encoding part of the gene is removed, display a substantial reduction in walking speed.
