Gene Summary
RNA-binding protein 6 (Rbp6) encodes a paralog of the RNA-binding protein encoded by msi. In contrast to msi, Rbp6 mutants are viable and fertile, with only a slight delay in eclosion. The product of Rbp6 may have roles in response to fungal infection and aggressive behavior. [Date last reviewed: 2019-03-14] (FlyBase Gene Snapshot)

Additional Descriptive Data

A probe that detects transcripts Rbp6-RA and Rbp6-RB (which produce the long isoforms) is detected in the ring gland in embryos and larvae, in the larval brain and ventral ganglion, and in adult ovary and testis.

Zygotic-specific isoforms of Rbp6 with long 3' UTR extensions were observed.

Additional Descriptive Data

Rbp6 protein is detected in the eye disc posterior to the morphogenetic furrow, the ring gland, and non-proliferative cells of the brain in third instar larvae. It is observed in somatic cyst cells in the testis and in the oocyte and nurse cells in the adult ovary.
