UASt regulatory sequences are fused upstream of the EGFP version of Avic\GFP. A fragment containing 90 Zzzz\CGG repeats has been inserted between the transcriptional and translational start sites of Avic\GFP. The repeat fragment is derived from the 5'UTR of a Hsap\FMR1 gene containing premutation-length repeats, and consists of the sequence (CGG)[[9]]AGG(CGG)[[9]]AGG(CGG)[[70]].

The eye defects induced by the expression of Zzzz\CGG90.UAS.EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU (rough eye and depigmentation) are enhanced by the co-expression of either schlankJF02502, Sk2HMS03001 or rasJF01445, even leading to necrotic patches.

The eye degeneration phenotype observed in adult flies expressing Zzzz\CGG90.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long (and maintained at 28[o]C) is significantly enhanced by co-expression of either Prosβ61.B.Scer\UAS or Prosβ21.Scer\UAS (the latter of which on its own also induces rough eye phenotype), the eye degeneration is most severe when two copies of the Prosβ21.Scer\UAS transgene are used. The Zzzz\CGG90.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP-induced eye phenotype is not modified by co-expression of either Atg6dsRNA.Scer\UAS or Atg12dsRNA.Scer\UAS.
